Undergraduate Students
Morgan Adkins
Morgan is an undergraduate senior studying Industrial Engineering, and has already accepted a position in Optum’s Consulting Development Program as a Senior Business Analyst. Here at UW-Madison Morgan is currently an Editor/Head of the writing department for the Wisconsin Engineer magazine. She also volunteers with middle school and high school students through Young Life and Youth Group at High Point. Morgan is passionate about precision agriculture as she feels that it directly helps people by making agriculture more efficient. Her background in industrial and systems engineering is similar in that it’s all about optimization and organizational improvement. However, she was drawn to precision agriculture because of it’s practical application. Every idea and project is geared toward helping growers to do their job best, which helps everyone.
“I grew up in Juda, WI, a rural, agricultural town. Growing up in small town Wisconsin, I never realized how much urban areas were removed from that world. When I came to Madison, I wanted to become more involved with agriculture in some way, and to do so, I began to write articles related to agriculture for a magazine on campus. I interviewed Dr. Luck for an article on precision agriculture, and after about two hours of talking about the topic, and then school, research, backgrounds, the weather, and more, he offered me a job in his lab. Since then, I’ve learned a lot, and the more I learn, the more I realize I have yet to discover.”
